Celebration of Hope Honorees
Thanks to the generous support of many individuals, corporations and foundations, The Wellness Community – Greater Washington, DC is able to provide all of its programs free of charge to people affected by cancer. This year, we are honoring an individual and a company that have provided tremendous support to TWC-DC in helping us fulfill our mission.
This year, Susie Dyer is the recipient of our Celebration of Hope Award. Susie, a cervical and breast cancer survivor, philanthropist and volunteer, was introduced to TWC-DC about six months after we opened our doors in 2007. She soon became involved as one of our most active volunteers, and has weekly donated her time and talents to TWC-DC for over two years. Susie also provides generous financial support to TWC-DC and refers friends and neighbors to participate in our programs.

Whole Foods Bethesda is this year’s recipient of our new Partnership Award. The world’s leader in natural and organic foods, Whole Foods is committed to selling the highest quality natural and organic products available and to promoting healthy eating. Since we opened our doors in 2007, Whole Foods Bethesda has provided (pro bono) healthy food and beverage for our education programs and opened its store to Guided Nutrition Tours for our participants.

Catalogue for Philanthropy
The Wellness Community was proud to have been selected for profile in the 2008-09 Catalogue for Philanthropy, www.cfp-dc.org. The Catalogue for Philanthropy: Greater Washington introduces you to the wide world of local, community-based – with budgets below $3 million. Though they comprise about 85% of all nonprofits, the public rarely hears about them because most cannot afford to make themselves heard. Yet dollar-for-dollar, they offer some of the most cost-effective opportunities for philanthropy. If “making a difference” is one of your goals, then excellent smaller charities may be for you.
